Three dairy breeds and four beef breeds will be staging major national competitions at Livestock Event, the UK sector’s largest business to business event to be held at The NEC, Birmingham, England on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 July 2015.
An important innovation this year will be free entry to International Visitors, on production of their passports.
More than 500 stall places have been allocated in the Livestock Hall which provides the best modern showing facilities within a temperature controlled environment.
On the dairy front Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and British Friesian cattle societies have each confirmed they will be holding their national shows at the event, as part of the National Dairy Show which also includes Holstein, Jersey and Dairy Shorthorn classes. And for the beef breeds British Blue and Charolais cattle societies will be holding their national shows, Aberdeen Angus will be staging its junior national show and the South Devon Herd Book Society will be launching its inaugural performance championship.
The Lleyn Sheep Society will also be staging a national competition of pure and crossbreds.
The competitive livestock classes will be complemented by over 450 trade stands (covering all aspects of the livestock sector) and a series of technical seminars, discussions and practical demonstrations all of which are designed to help farmers make more money. Main attractions for 2015 include a live combined robotic milking and feeding demonstration for 40 cows and a live calf rearing demonstration run under veterinary supervision featuring different housing and feeding systems.
“Britain remains renowned as the world’s stockyard and Livestock Event has attracted some of its most modern genetics,” says event director, Matt Knight. “Each of the three national dairy shows will feature the cream of the crop, whilst each of the four high profile beef competitions are scheduled to attract the best Breedplanperformance recorded cattle. There will also be an opportunity to explore British genetics available from leading companies including Cogent and Genus ABS.
“Being able to fly direct into Birmingham International from over 100 countries worldwide and just walk to the event is a real attraction, as are the major road and rail connections, as well as the NEC facilities with over 2,000 hotel rooms on site” he added.
