Not dry and
white but bubbly and red! Sauvignon, a five-year old Limousin bull was
taken by his owners the Crawford Brothers from Northern Ireland
to the SIMA show in Paris earlier this month. This was the first time
for many years that any animal from the UK had been taken specifically
to a European show and he had come directly from the Cogent AI stud in
England. He was in competition with animals from other countries, including
France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. After coming first out of a class
of 13 and then winning Senior Male Champion, Sauvignon went on to win
the Overall Male Championship and Best Carcass Animal. He is now recognised
as the Best Limousin Bull in Europe.
The Agricultural Engineers Association
(AEA), BLG, Holstein UK and Shepherd Publishing (see News item 'British
Livestock - a new magazine' 23 March
07) shared an information and the Jersey Cattle Society had a separate
stand. Nine UK companies participated under UKTI support to exhibit
at SIMA which is one of the largest machinery and livestock shows in
the
world and attracted an audience of 213 761 entrances from 142 840 visitors,
an increase in the gate of 8% over the previous edition in 2005. Twenty-five
percent of the visitors were international.
The AEA received a number
of machinery and general enquiries. Rob Wills, Executive Manager of
BLG, which represents all the British livestock
breeding sector for international business said he was delighted at
the response to BLG's participation and that trade leads had been received
from 21 countries.
Excellent support was received from the SIMA UK agents,
Promosalons. The next edition of SIMA is scheduled for 2009.
