More than 2000 Rouge de l'Ouest sheep are being evaluated
together for the first time with the launch of a new Sire Reference Scheme
for the breed.
The entry of the new group brings the number of across-flock
evaluations provided by the MLC's Signet Sheepbreeder Service up to an
all time high of 53, including 37 different sheep breeds or breeding groups.
Sam Boon, head of the Signet service said "Britain is second to none
in its sheep sector breeding programmes." [See www.signetfbc.co.uk

James Siggs, a Rouge de l'Ouest breeder from Devon, said:
"This new approach to the evaluation of the breed lets us identify
the most profitable rams for our commercial clients - those which have
superior breeding potential for growth rate and carcase attributes. "We
are sure that this work will enhance the value of using British Rouge
rams in commercial sheep production."
