John Yates has been appointed to succeed Steve McLean as the new Chief Executive & Company Secretary of the British Texel Sheep Breed Society. Steve leaves in September to join the prestigious retailing group Marks and Spencer, after 13 years with the Society. He has played a key role in many innovations at breed and industry levels and has helped the Society grow to become Britain's largest sheep breed society.
In a message to members, Society Chairman Tim Healy said "John will be known to many of you, having worked in the pedigree and genetic technology sectors of the sheep industry for the past 18 years. He comes with a proven track record in organisational management and an in-depth knowledge of dealing with Government and its agencies in all aspects of the livestock sector."
John's most recent post has been as a Director of Innovis (formerly Edinburgh Genetics), specialists in small ruminant reproduction. This work brought him wide international experience, which lead to him being invited to be a Director of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium (BLG).
John overlaps with Steve for the latter part of August and will be attending this season's Premier and National Sales. Healy concludes "the securing of John's services ensures the continuing development of the Society to the benefit of all our Members." For more, see www.texel.co.uk<.p>
