A significant consignment of semen predominantly from pedigree Limousin bulls
but also including a batch of British Blue and Charolais semen has been successfully
exported to Texas, USA, for two separate customers, following orders made through
the e-commerce site Semenstore.co.uk.
In all, semen from seven Limousin bulls has been forwarded, along with semen
from two British Blue bulls and one Charolais bull. The Limousins comprised
some leading bulls: Wilodge Tonka, Ronick Member, Grahams Unbeatable, Grahams
Samson, Jockey, Milbrook Alistair (sexed semen) and Millbrook Vic. The British
Blue semen came from Cowden Arctic and Cowden Vesuvius, whilst the Charolais
semen was from the Jolympe; these three bulls are part of Cogent’s beef
selection.
Both of the semen orders were sent on one delivery from Semenstore’s storage
hub at Cogent Breeding Ltd, to the Texas-based company Champion Genetics and
the second order saw semen from two Limousins, the two British Blues and Charolais
head to the Texas/Mexico border herd of Javier Moreno.
Since its launch in January 2009, Semenstore.co.uk, has completed export orders
to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Australia, and South Africa. This
most recent shipment to the USA is the first multi-breed order completed through
the on-line company.
Henry Lewis, Chairman of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium, welcomed
the export news and said, “Semenstore is a great initiative and is proving
to be an excellent service to the British breeding sector. This multi-breed
order to Texas marks another exciting development and offers tremendous potential
for the forward marketing of British genetics."
Bob Cummins (Champion Genetics, Hilltop Farms) purchased semen from five Limousins
runs the oldest active Brahmousin herd in the United States and has been cross-breeding
Brahman and Limousin cattle since 1983. Selecting bulls from Semenstore primarily
on conformation and performance figures, Mr Cummins plans to use the semen on
¼ Limousin – ¾ Brahman females to produce a 5/8 Limousin
- 3/8 Brahman calf. This percentage is considered purebred Brahmousin. Mr. Cummins,
who located the Semenstore whilst surfing the web for British Limousin semen
said, “My interest in British Limousin sires lies primarily in their potential
to provide some additional thickness and muscling in our Brahmousin cattle and
I hope these bulls will complement our existing genetic traits of light birth
weights, calving ease, fertility, and fast growth to weaning for the cow/calf
producer.”
Commenting on the on-line export sales Iain Kerr, Director of Semenstore Ltd,
said, “The quality of British pedigree breeding and genetics is recognised
across the world. The e-commerce Semenstore is proving to be a popular modern
marketing technology that is providing easy access, visibility and choices of
top British genetics for cattle breeders both domestically and internationally.”
In a further Semenstore completed order this month, semen from the noted Limousin
bulls, Wilodge Cerberus and Ampertaine Abracadabra, has been exported to the
Danish company Viking Genetics.
