Semen from the prolific British Limousin bull, Goldies Terence, has been sold
by breeder Bruce Goldie, Dumfries, Scotland for export to Norway. This latest
export follows hard on the heels of earlier semen sales of Terence to Finland
and two consignments to Australia.
The Norwegian importer is Limousin breeder, Ola-Jorn Tilrem who farms on the
west coast of the country, approximately 100 miles (160 km) south of the Arctic
Circle.

Mr. Tilrem made his enquiry and order through the online e-commerce site, www.semenstore.co.uk
and picked out Goldies Terence for the combination of pedigree bloodlines and
performance figures. To date he has sired Supreme Champions at the leading sales
in both Perth and Carlisle and sons have sold up to £21,000 at auction,
with a further son having sold for £26,000 in a private deal. Excellent
performance figures across the traits, both maternal and terminal, give Goldies
Terence a Beef Value of LM+42 putting him firmly in the top 1% of performance
recorded Limousin animals.
Commenting, Mr Tilrem said, “Semen from four to five new bulls is imported
by the Norwegian Limousin Association each year with individuals making additional
private imports of semen and embryos.”
Limousin cattle were firmly established in Norway between 1992 and 1996 and
since then more numbers and new bloodlines have been introduced through embryos
and semen. This has been due to the high health status of herds in Norway and
restrictions on live cattle imports. “I am very confident that Goldies
Terence will fit in among several other imports of similar type animals that
have influenced our herd in the last decade” added Mr Tilrem.
In a separate transaction, a further 105 straws of Goldies Terence have been
exported to Finland where a spokesman from the Finnish Breeders’ Association
said they were looking for a bull with a proven breeding record and a high positive
for every trait in the Limousin recording system; with Terence fitting that
bill perfectly.
Two consignments of Goldies Terence semen have now also been exported to Australia
through Keystone Genetics, whose owner Tim Keys has reported that his customers
have been delighted with the Terence progeny already on the ground. “They
excel in three essential criteria for our industry - ease of birth, structural
soundness and temperament,” he said.
Welcoming the semen exports, Semenstore Director Iain Kerr said, “These
exports are indicative of the interest there is in British Limousin cattle and
semen and the quality of animals that we are able to supply. At present we have
further strong enquiries, through the Semenstore, from Germany, USA and South
Africa that we are working to fulfil.” For any further information please
