A group of eight enthusiastic British cattle breeders are flying the flag
with a ‘British Livestock Pavilion’ at this year’s National
Ploughing Championships, being held near Athy in the Republic of Ireland from
22 to 24 September. (www.npa.ie)
This follows the very successful event staged at the event two years ago.
Those exhibiting are:
THE SHORTHORN SOCIETY OF UK & IRELAND
THE SOUTH DEVON HERD BOOK SOCIETY
NORBRECK GENETICS
THE BRITISH BLONDE SOCIETY
THE SWALEDALE SHEEP BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION
THE GALLOWAY CATTLE SOCIETY
THE MURRAY GREY BEEF CATTLE SOCIETY
THE BRITISH BLUE CATTLE SOCIETY
Event organizer, John Fleming from the British Blue Cattle Society, commented
“This is a very valuable market which it is ‘key’ for UK breeders
to further develop. The exhibiting companies and breeders are building and consolidating
on the very successful leads that were made two years ago.
Ireland is a great market to put your toe into as a new exporter, it is near
to hand and language is not an issue; once export confidence is built, many
take that extra step to then explore markets for British genetics further afield,
such either on mainland Europe, Russia, South America or Australasia.
All of us heading for the event are looking forward to a very busy three days
and a surge in business orders. One thing is certain, that there is tremendous
interest in the quality of British genetics.”
The pavilion is being further enhanced by exhibiting previously exported quality
British stock, which have been sourced from our Irish customers.
Philip Halhead of Norbreck Genetics said “We will also be pleased to take
enquiries for other breeds and genetics from the UK which are not represented
in the group exhibiting here.”
The exhibitors group have very much welcomed the ‘Solo Grant’ support
received from UKTI, which has helped make our presence, this is in addition
the much appreciated assistance from Quality Meat Scotland via the British Livestock
Genetics Consortium.
