Yet again, the British livestock sector will be strongly represented at South
America’s major agricultural show, ExpoInter, held annually on the outskirts
of Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This year’s show runs from
Saturday 29 August to Sunday 6 September.
Visitors to the show with livestock interests will receive a big welcome at
the Casa Britanica. Rob Wills, Director of UK Sire Services (UKSS) will be leading
the British team which includes such heavyweights as the Presidents of the Beef
Shorthorn Cattle Society, James Playfair-Hannay, and British Texel Sheep Society,
Tim Healy. Both Rob and James are also Directors of BLG.
Texels are the major terminal sire sheep breed in Britain. UKSS are an independent
bull stud for the collection, storage, distribution and marketing of cattle
semen from both beef and dairy cattle. The Shorthorn Society will welcome visitors
from around the world to Britain next June (2010) for the breed’s World
Congress. Links to the websites of these organisations can be made from the
Members listing on www.britishlivestockgenetics.com Those who can’t make
it to ExpoInter can always make contact by this route.
Britain’s participation at ExpoInter in recent years stretches back to
1994; exhibitors have been strongly supported over the years by the British
Consulate in Porto Alegre.
