One of the UK’s leading Poll Herefords breeders, J R B Wilson & Sons,
whose Romany herd is at Cowbog in the Scottish Borders, have re-established
export links with Germany to a previous long-established customer prior
to the EU's export ban imposed in 1989. A seventeen month old bull, Romany
1 Classic, and two heifers made up the consignment to near Bremen in
Northern Germany. They were accompanied by another bull, Romany 1 Cavalier,
sold to Germany’s largest Hereford herd, located south of Berlin.
The valuable shipment arrived safely in Germany on 24 February.
Aye Aye
Captain!
Semen from the Wilson’s herd from the young bull
Romany 1 Captain has also been exported recently to Germany to a Berlin-based
AI company.
Captain is a grandson of a Royal Show Champion in 2003 and was a hugely
successful stock sire at Cowbog.
Captain’s EBVs are very impressive
- he has a 200 day weight of +37kg, which is the top figure for a poll
bull available through AI in
the UK and figures of +8kg for milk, +54kg and +69 kg for 400 and 600
day weights, respectively, which are all in the top 5% for the breed.
His semen qualifies for many markets around the world - see www.romanyherefords.co.uk for more information and with any enquiries for semen, embryos or breeding
stock.
A further shipment of Captain's semen is going to Denmark
in March to be shared between some leading breeders. (Hereford cattle
exports
also
resumed to Denmark recently.) Captain was collected at UK Sire Services'
custom-collection unit in Devon, England. (For more info see www.uksireservices

France not to be left out!
Not to be outdone, a shipment
of nine Hereford bulls (and a Red Angus bull) are also lined up to
make new homes in France, where both the Hereford
and Angus breeds are also well-established. For more information on
