The first export consignments of British cattle semen to Brazil in 10
years have been successfully delivered by Genus Breeding. The shipments
comprised 2,000 doses of Charolais semen from the bull Shraden Talisman
and the same quantity of Friesian semen from the bulls Lakemead Alphonso
and Lakemead Rancher.
Says Mark Smith, global production and product development
manager: “This
is an exciting breakthrough – not just for us at Genus, but for
the whole British cattle breeding industry. We hope our shipments signal
the start of a developing export trade.” Brazil is a huge potential
market – it has 170 million cattle. “This new era presents
us with opportunities to introduce new bloodlines to Brazil through our
subsidiary company ABS Pecplan, a leading operator there. We also hope
it will be a launch pad to break into countries such as Paraguay and
Argentina,” he adds.
