European countries are on a boom as they export breeding cattle for re-stocking
in the New EU Members, to other Member States, East European countries
and North Africa. This is bringing their cattle industries many millions
of pounds [and even more in Dollars or Euros!] valuable income which is
currently denied to British cattle breeders, something our industry hopes
will soon be rectified. Some details are to hand:-
Germany
Last year Germany exported 66 000 breeding cattle, compared to 40 577
in 2003. The breed
breakdown was: Black & White Holstein - 55 878, Red & White Holstein
- 4156, Simmental -3226, Brown Swiss - 1710 and Beef Breeds - 937 heads

France was the main destination taking 26.8%, then Germany 10.9%, Poland
8.9%, Spain 4.1%, Benelux 3.1%, Russia 1.5% and other countries 44.7%
[Holland also exported 105 000 calves for veal whilst importing
650 000] [Source PVE Annual Report]
