A new magazine called British Livestock is announced by Shepherd Publishing, who also publish the prestigious Beef Farmer and Sheep Farmer magazines from their base in Malvern, England. Stimulated by the global interest in British genetics, and a year on from the re-entry of British cattle into Europe, the magazine is targeted at farmers and breeders outside the UK who wish to find out more or are interested in purchasing breeding stock and genetics from Great Britain.

Publisher Howard Venters says the intention is to offer an insight into the many issues relevant to the breeding, sourcing, and management of those animals and genetics appropriate to the specific farming locations, requirements and enterprises of producers internationally.

In English, with translations into French, German and Romanian, the first issue contains a number of general introductions to British livestock. Further issues will look at the variety of breeds available from the UK, their characteristics and the opportunities they offer, together with editorial coverage of the many tasks and management systems associated with establishing and producing first class breeding stock.

British Livestock will also make available as much information as possible as to where to source required animals, together with an overview of the major agricultural shows, events and livestock auctions that take place within all regions of the UK.

Rob Wills, Executive Manager of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium (BLG) welcomes this excellent initiative, which, he says "will do much to support the interests of BLG's members and is very much in line with our objectives. Indeed, BLG and some of its members have contributed editorially to the first edition".

The first issue has an introduction by Lord Plumb, editorial contribution by key figures from the UK livestock sector and will be launched at both Paris shows, SIA and SIMA in early March.

Editorial and advertisement contributions are welcome says Howard. For those who wish to receive a regular copy of the magazine, a subscription service is available at info@shepherdpublishing.co.uk Full details from Jill Smith at Shepherd Publishing on +44 (0)1684 565533.
